Sustainable Community-based Natural Resource Management
One of the courses in the Nepal Semester Abroad Program. Study the principles of community-managed natural resource-based sustainable development in a developing country setting. International perspectives on sustainable resource use/management in developed/developing countries, including integration of social, economic, policy considerations related to natural resource management. Course includes visits to community forest user groups in Nepal with the opportunity to explore issues of sustainabilty related to development efforts within communities actively managing and conserving communal forest areas. Community forestry has been credited with protecting and reestablishing important habitat for animals such as wild elephants, rhinos and tigers in the Terai (lowland) region of Nepal.
