| Areas
of Interest
My
research
interests
are
in
understanding
how
people
value
and
benefit
from
outdoor
recreation
areas
as
well
as
other
landscapes
that
may
or
may
not
have
a
recreational
component.
The
values
and
benefits
that
people
identify
are
then
translated
into
measurable
social
indicators
of
ecosystem
health.
Research
projects
include
studies
of
the
values
visitors
and
local
constituents
place
on
public
resource
land
management
and
on
the
short-
and
long-term
social
and
environmental
benefits
derived
from
recreational
use
on
public
lands.
Projects
also
include
developing
and
evaluating
management
processes
to
incorporate
social
indicators
into
ecosystem-based
management
models.
My
advisees
come
from
a
variety
of
backgrounds.
Generally
students
have
a
background
in
recreation
resource
management,
natural
resource
management,
environmental
studies,
forestry
or
geography.
