Letter from the Head
One of my priorities has been to reduce the costs that students incur when attending our field sessions. In addition to raising money for student scholarships, we have been working on a plan to restructure our Cloquet Forestry Center summer field sessions that enhances student learning outcomes, provides greater integration across the field courses, and reduces tuition costs without impacting their ability to secure a summer internship.
I am pleased to announce that we have developed a plan that will achieve these outcomes that is also supported by our students. Beginning in 2020, we will implement a new model that will reduce student tuition costs for our May and August Cloquet field sessions by as much as 80%. The cost savings are due to students now being able to register for all but one of our field courses during the academic year when a flat tuition rate is charged, rather than in summer term when tuition is charged per credit. The new model will substantially reduce the cost of attending our field sessions without compromising the high quality of instruction provided by our faculty. A special thanks go out to our faculty, staff, and students for their hard work in developing this plan.
